Wifi Interface Modes

Wifi, based on IEEE 802.11, defines interface modes. IBSS, aka ad hoc, mode is collision detect multiple access (CDMA) similar to a tapped ethernet cable. The more common managed mode hosts associated with an AP mode access point is similar to a star configuration of twisted pair ethernet clients attached to a central router. P2P-* modes, aka Wifi-Direct, are an alternative to bluetooth.
